The Georgia Guidestones were Vandalized (this time partially blown up)

The Georgia Guidestones have been merged into conspiracy theory for the last 20 years or so. Erected in 1980 by an anonymous person(s), the message was always taken to be some specific leftist ideology by those on the right. But honestly... that couldn't be farther from the truth.

You have to take the 1980's and the times into consideration. There was the Cold War and the thought of WWIII and radiation fallout that was on the minds of everyone as a possibility. The "population limit" was never intended for depopulating the current population but the limit that should be adhered to if a nuclear war or cataclysm did wipe out most people. "Maintain a population of 500M. Maintain does not mean depopulate to. (Less people, less war... blah blah blah... right or wrong that was the thinking).

If you read the tenets inscribed they are neither left nor right. Do you think the left are against petty laws? No way. The World Court was in reference to country disputes (instead of wars between countries) otherwise every nation should be allowed to settle their own disputes within. That's a very nationalized tenet. The left hated that one. It betrays the notion of a one world government.

You do have the balance of personal rights with nature which was the lefty green stance. Again... WWIII - Radiation - End of nature... etc... Still... there is a down the middle view point that was used. There is no way you can call this completely leftist thinking.

1) Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
2) Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity.
3) Unite humanity with a living new language.
4) Rule passion — faith — tradition — and all things with tempered reason.
5) Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
6) Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
7) Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
8) Balance personal rights with social duties.
9) Prize truth — beauty — love — seeking harmony with the infinite.
10) Be not a cancer on the Earth — Leave room for nature — Leave room for nature.

I view the guidestones as I view confederate statues. It shows an exact moment in history (specifically the 1980's and the Cold War as well as the fear of nuclear war). I totally disagree with removing statues and I disagree with those who blew up the guidestones. There is no difference, in my view, of those who want to destroy or remove either.

I think the it is a mistake to view them as anything but a reminder of the Cold War. The message was co-opted into rightwing conspiracy of today when it has nothing to do with today. The left do NOT hold the guidestones in any reverence either. So those who think they scored cred by blowing it up achieved nothing. They just destroyed a bit of history like the Taliban did in Afghanistan.
Word is that the Russian/Chinese column is the specific column that was blown up.

Maybe it was a bipartisan effort. A righty (against China) and a lefty (Pro Ukraine against Russia) walk into a bar. The bartender (Chaotic Libertarian) says, "Ya'll want to blow something up together?
